oh home

coming home!
home to thriving terrariums
the perssimons are ripe for baking
my latest vintage find: a fierce and soft tapestry
a reminder of tangible joshua tree
happy to cuddle up with trix
the roses from my garden bloomed beautifully after the heavy rain

Our last day in New York was full.
Sam was on the phone much of the day, trying to get tickets to sleep no more.
We began our day at mud for coffee.
We shopped century 21 and found sam a few really fantastic pieces.
We paid our respects at the world trade center memorial and then walked over to Zuccotti park to support the protestors.
It wasn't the most hopeful scene over there.
The remaining crowd had reduced to a mere handful.
The amount of police in the surrounding area was embarrassing.  Lots of tax dollars at waste.
We had a delightful japanese dinner and then went back to rest in hell's kitchen before our adventure at the McKittrick hotel!!!

packcrastination

i leave on saturday for new york!  tonight i am wearing a purification hair masque while organizing and packing.  more about that in a future post.
packing for cold weather trips is more difficult than packing for summer trips to sunshiney destinations.  i am really trying to pack sparingly. you know, save room for goodies that may come my way.  but i am trying not to bring a big coat. layers, layers, layers!  i have decided to layer sheers with sparkly knits and worn out flannels.  distressed leather with burn out knits and rocker tees.  flimsy slips with biker boots, henley thermals and a mariachi vest.
time to take a break and visit blogs for more inspiration.

i haven't been posting as often as i would like.
work has been  steady and i leave for new york in a few days.
my days are jam packed full of running around southern california searching for props for a shoot that my sam will work on his own. we had to change his flight.
he will join me in new york a little later than expected.
i cannot complain, we are grateful to have bacardi as a return client.
i promise to post "packing for ny" photos tomorrow.

those who favor fire

vintage cardigan- Le Sweater
belt, top, necklace- vintage
flares- Free People
boots- JC Studded Tardy from LF

after dinner with friends
we made a fire at home.
the weather finally permits
 but really...
i could sit by a fire any time of the year.
lazy
novel
happily possessed i am
as i become a slave to it's riotous flames and husky breath.
i literally cannot leave the hearth.
i have no desire but to feed it.
and when i add bessie smith to the mix
i swear i can feel my fascia melt into my bones.
i think that the elements help keep you in the moment
because
fucking hell
i am totally without the binding pull of past or future
when fire burns
waves crash
i dig in the earth
or the wind blows and howls.

our first day off in weeks!  we had somewhat of a lazy day. we had lunch at a french cafe. i had pate and fresh greens. sam had steak tartar.  we shopped a bit around los feliz. sam found a lovely pair of oxfords and i scored these matte subtle cat eye sunnies.
my husband and i work together as a set designer/prop stylist team.  we spend so much time on set rushing about that these little moments of just the two of us treating ourselves to lunch and beautiful things can really ground us and get us out of work mode.
it has been rainy and cool(southern california cool). this has prompted me to start planning my beloved layers upon layers looks of fall and winter.  today wasn't too chilly so i chose to layer this otherwise cheesy and boring tunic over a skirt.  i love the lengthening effect.  and these Litas...i put them in the back of my closet because they are everywhere.  but, fuck... they are just really good boots for height, comfort and outfit compatibility. in that respect, i am totally at ease with being one, in an army of girls in Litas.
